TENJIN – Dobari Style with Octagonal Grip
The TENJIN is a Dobari-style shinai, designed with the balance closer to the hands for smooth and effortless handling.
What makes this model special is its octagonal grip, which provides a stronger tactile feel and greater control of the shinai.
With a thicker handle (left-hand grip: 28mm or 30mm), and the naturally lighter tip of the Dobari style, it feels exceptionally well-balanced and responsive.
Ideal for both keiko and matches, the TENJIN allows quick reaction and precise strikes.
This shinai meets All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF) regulations and comes with the official SSP certification seal.
The name “Tenjin” means Heavenly God or God of Learning, referring to the revered scholar Sugawara no Michizane.

・Standard Shinai
Neutral balance. The most common type, suitable for all levels.
・Dobari Shinai
Weight near the handle. Best for quick, fast strikes and competition.
・Koto Shinai
Weight is distributed across the whole shinai, centering toward the middle. Favored by experienced players for powerful, solid impact.

(Weights are approximate and may vary due to natural bamboo. Please note: 38-size women’s approx. 420 g is for high school girls’ division in Japan and cannot be used in general adult women’s competitions.)
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.

・Each kendo equipment and uniform brand follows its own design standards, so slight differences may exist even with the same size specifications.
