SENGI OBORO – Dobari-Style Short & Thick Grip Kendo Shinai
The SENGI OBORO is a Dobari-style shinai, meaning it has a slender tip and the balance is positioned closer to the hands.
This design provides excellent control and a light, responsive feel, making it suitable for both daily practice and tournament use.
The grip is thick (approx. φ30mm), allowing a stronger and more connected feel with the bamboo.
In addition, the shorter grip shifts the balance further toward the hands, enhancing swing speed and maneuverability.
It’s a shinai that reacts instantly when striking or responding to an opponent’s attack.
Complies with All Japan Kendo Federation regulations and includes an official SSP sticker.
“Oboro” means “hazy” or “dim,” evoking the image of a softly blurred moon in the night sky.

●Shinai Styles
・Standard Shinai
Neutral balance. The most common type, suitable for all levels.
・Dobari Shinai
Weight near the handle. Best for quick, fast strikes and competition.
・Koto Shinai
Weight is distributed across the whole shinai, centering toward the middle. Favored by experienced players for powerful, solid impact.

(Weights are approximate and may vary due to natural bamboo. Please note: 38-size women’s approx. 420 g is for high school girls’ division in Japan and cannot be used in general adult women’s competitions.)
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
