RYO Aizome Kendo Gi

The RYO Kendo Gi is an authentic uniform crafted from 100% natural cotton fabric, finished with traditional Aizome (indigo dyeing).
While traditional indigo-dyed uniforms are known for initial stiffness, significant color fading, and shrinkage, the RYO Kendo Gi has been specially Pre-Washed (Washed Processed) to minimize these drawbacks.
Benefits of the Pre-Washed Process
・Softness: The fabric is soft and comfortable right out of the package, allowing for immediate, easy wear during practice.
・Reduced Fading: Initial color run and fading are significantly reduced, lessening the risk of color transfer to other garments.
・Minimal Shrinkage: The fabric has already been exposed to water, which stabilizes the material and greatly reduces shrinkage after subsequent washing.
The uniform features Hitoe Orizashi (Single Layer Weave) fabric, making it lightweight and thin. The 100% cotton construction offers excellent sweat absorption and quick-drying properties, making it ideal for regular Keiko (practice).
●Maintenance
・Hand washing is strongly recommended.
・Use cold water and avoid detergent when possible. If necessary, use a small amount of non-fluorescent detergent.
・After washing, dry in the shade in a well-ventilated area. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as this can cause fading or degradation of the indigo dye.
Short drying periods (1–2 hours) are acceptable.
・As this product is made from 100% cotton, it may shrink after washing. To reduce shrinkage, gently stretch the fabric while damp and hang dry.
・Do not use a tumble dryer.
・Indigo-dyed items naturally bleed color. Do not try to “”wash out the color completely”” or “”scrub until color stops transferring.””
・Fading over time is part of the beauty and character of indigo-dyed garments.

・Each Kendo equipment and uniform brand manufactures its products based on its own unique design philosophy and standards.
Therefore, even if the size specifications are the same, there may be slight differences in details such as the thickness of the men-shin (inner padding of the helmet), the shape of the do (chest protector), the length of the kote (gloves), or the overall fit of each uniform.
