●Product Description
The SUZAKU shinai features a Dobari-style shape (with a slightly bulged midsection).
Its grip measures approximately 30 mm (bamboo only, left-hand position), making it significantly thicker than a standard Dobari shinai.
As a result, the entire silhouette of the shinai appears thicker, making it a great choice for kendo players with larger hands or taller builds.
Despite its thick grip, thanks to the Dobari and tapered-tip design, it remains easy to swing and allows for smooth handling.
*Note
Important: Because the grip is extra thick, please check that your tsuba and tsubadome (guard stopper) will fit properly before use.
With the handle leather attached, the grip will become approximately 1–2 mm thicker than the bamboo-only measurement.
●Reference: Typical Shinai Size & Weight

Size 39: 120 cm – Men: approx. 510 g | Women: approx. 440 g

●About Shinai Styles
Standard Shinai type:A well-balanced, versatile shape commonly used by practitioners of all levels – from beginners to advanced players.
Dobari Shinai type:Features a slightly wider section near the handle, shifting the balance closer to the hands. This makes the shinai feel lighter at the tip, allowing for quicker handling and faster combinations. (Often referred to as “practical” or “competition style.”)
Koto Shinai type:Inspired by the shape of a Japanese katana. Designed for advanced practitioners seeking powerful, precise strikes.
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
