●Product Description
KEIJI Shinai is a Dobari-type shinai with an extra-thick grip.
Dobari-type shinais have the balance point closer to the grip, making them easier to maneuver and swing.
This type is commonly used not only for regular practice but especially in competitions by many kendo players.
The key feature of the KEIJI Shinai is its thick grip.
The grip measures approximately 30 mm in its raw bamboo state, making it one of the thickest shinais available.
The overall silhouette of the shinai is also crafted to be slightly thicker than standard models.
It comes with an “SSP” seal, which certifies that it meets the standards set by the All Japan Kendo Federation and can be used in official matches.
The name “KEIJI” evokes the image of a strong and powerful Japanese Sengoku-era warrior.

●About Shinai Styles
Standard Shinai type:A well-balanced, versatile shape commonly used by practitioners of all levels – from beginners to advanced players.
Dobari Shinai type:Features a slightly wider section near the handle, shifting the balance closer to the hands. This makes the shinai feel lighter at the tip, allowing for quicker handling and faster combinations. (Often referred to as “practical” or “competition style.”)
Koto Shinai type:Inspired by the shape of a Japanese katana. Designed for advanced practitioners seeking powerful, precise strikes.
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
