KONHITOE Cotton Single-Layer Stitch Kendo Gi – Sulfur Dyed
●Specifications
・100% Cotton
・Sulfur Dyed (Not Indigo)
・Available Sizes: 2, 3, 4, 5
This lightweight kendo gi is ideal for beginners and daily practice. It features a single-layered stitched fabric (Ichiju-zashi), meaning there is no inner lining—just one thin, durable cotton layer. The fabric is the same type used in kendo equipment, making it both breathable and tough.
Unlike traditional indigo-dyed kendo gi, this one uses sulfur dye to achieve a navy color with minimal fading or color transfer. As a result, it has a different hue and texture compared to indigo-dyed fabric. Made entirely from cotton, it absorbs sweat well and is easy to wash—making it perfect for regular keiko and beginner use.
*The “”stitched fabric”” (Orizashi) used here is 100% cotton, dyed overseas using a sulfur dye method.
*Compared to Japanese indigo-dyed fabric, sulfur dye may appear lighter and have a different color depth.
*Sulfur dye is a stable dyeing method known for reduced color fading and minimal staining on skin or other fabrics.
●Maintenance
・Wash with cold water or mild detergent (non-fluorescent detergent recommended).
・Hand wash or machine wash, then hang dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
・When using a washing machine, wash separately or with similar colors to avoid potential color transfer.
・As it is made of cotton, some shrinkage may occur after washing. To minimize this, stretch the fabric out gently and hang dry immediately after washing.
・Do not use a tumble dryer under any circumstances.
●Takeshima’s Recommendation
This is a go-to option we recommend to customers looking for a comfortable and practical gi for regular training. For those who prefer cotton over synthetic jersey fabrics—or for practitioners who’ve been doing kendo for years—this gi fits the bill.
One point to note is the color tone. The navy from sulfur dye behaves much like a dark T-shirt: after repeated washes, it may gradually lighten over time. For special occasions such as examinations, matches, or visiting other dojos, wearing a deep indigo-dyed gi is usually preferred. Senior practitioners and examiners often observe not only performance, but also how properly one wears the gi and how it looks.
●Notes
・Each Kendo equipment and uniform brand manufactures its products based on its own unique design philosophy and standards.
Therefore, even if the size specifications are the same, there may be slight differences in details such as the thickness of the men-shin (inner padding of the helmet), the shape of the do (chest protector), the length of the kote (gloves), or the overall fit of each uniform.
・Due to differences in devices and viewing environments, the color and texture of the product may appear slightly different from the actual item. Thank you for your understanding.
