TAKA Traditional Indigo-Dyed Syou Aizome Hitoe Kendo Gi
Specifications:
・Material: 100% Cotton
・Dye: Traditional Indigo (Syou Aizome Hitoe)
・Sizes: 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 / 4.5 / 5
This Kendo gi features a deep and elegant indigo color, beautifully achieved through traditional dyeing techniques. The fabric is pre-washed (Yunoushi) to reduce stiffness and minimize fading compared to untreated garments.
Note: This does not mean the fabric is completely colorfast or non-transferable.
The single-layer sashiko fabric makes this Kendo Gi lightweight and breathable, ideal for training and tournaments in warm environments.
The richly dyed indigo color rivals even high-end kendo wear in appearance.
●Maintenance
・Hand washing is strongly recommended.
・Use cold water and avoid detergent when possible. If necessary, use a small amount of non-fluorescent detergent.
・After washing, dry in the shade in a well-ventilated area. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as this can cause fading or degradation of the indigo dye.
Short drying periods (1–2 hours) are acceptable.
・As this product is made from 100% cotton, it may shrink after washing. To reduce shrinkage, gently stretch the fabric while damp and hang dry.
・Do not use a tumble dryer.
・Indigo-dyed items naturally bleed color. Do not try to “”wash out the color completely”” or “”scrub until color stops transferring.””
・Fading over time is part of the beauty and character of indigo-dyed garments.
●Takeshima’s Recommendation
Indigo-dyed (Syou Aizome) kendo gi are becoming increasingly rare in Japan, with limited annual production and rising prices.
Among these, TAKA is our top recommendation for those seeking a high-quality indigo-dyed kendo uniform at an accessible price.
The deep blue finish of this gi is nearly indistinguishable from Japanese-dyed versions, offering excellent quality without the premium cost.
Made from lightweight single-layer cotton sashiko, this gi is suitable for all seasons and can be worn for practice, grading, or competition. A versatile and durable choice for those who appreciate the tradition and beauty of indigo dyeing.
●Notes
・Each Kendo equipment and uniform brand manufactures its products based on its own unique design philosophy and standards.
Therefore, even if the size specifications are the same, there may be slight differences in details such as the thickness of the men-shin (inner padding of the helmet), the shape of the do (chest protector), the length of the kote (gloves), or the overall fit of each uniform.
・Due to differences in devices and viewing environments, the color and texture of the product may appear slightly different from the actual item. Thank you for your understanding.
