About the TARE (Waist Protector):
The TARE is finished with clean, straight 6mm machine stitching and features a hand-sewn five-stripe decorative pattern, which is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. This pattern is said to allow the flaps to move more flexibly in sync with your footwork, providing protection for the lower body without restricting movement.
The Maki-gawa (the joint section connecting the main body and straps) is reinforced with synthetic leather for durability.

●Takeshima’s Recommendation
The “SAI” Original Kendo Equipment Series by Takeshima Budogu is highly recommended for beginners as well as experienced practitioners for regular practice.
The name “SAI” (最) means “excellent” or “superior,” and embodies the wish for continuous improvement in the user’s kendo skills.

This set is crafted with 6mm machine stitching. In modern bogu, stitching widths of 5mm to 6mm are the most common. While 3mm stitching offers high durability, it results in very stiff bogu, reducing comfort and fit—making it rare in recent years. On the other hand, stitching widths of 8mm to 10mm provide a softer and puffier texture and ease of use but leave more surface area exposed, increasing the risk of fabric wear when struck repeatedly.
For balanced performance and durability, the 5mm–6mm range is considered ideal for a wide range of situations.

●Maintenance
・After use, reshape the TARE and air-dry it in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
・Indigo-dyed fabrics may fade or become discolored if left under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. A short exposure (1–2 hours) is generally acceptable, but please avoid extended drying over multiple days.
Dry the TARE in a natural shape when possible, or store it in your bogu bag.
・The TARE straps are prone to wrinkling. After use, try to smooth out any wrinkles before storing.
・Over time, sweat may seep to the surface of the MEN or KOTE, leaving white salt marks. In such cases, gently mist or apply moisture using a damp cloth, then let it dry naturally.
・Avoid rubbing the indigo-dyed fabric forcefully with a wet cloth, as this can cause discoloration and degrade the appearance of the bogu. Handle gently.

●Notes
・The “indigo-dyed orizashi fabric” used in this bogu is dyed overseas. While overseas-dyed fabrics have a beautiful indigo tone, they may differ in richness and depth of color compared to high-end, domestically dyed Japanese fabrics.
・Indigo-dyed fabrics may initially transfer color to the skin or clothing. This will lessen over time with continued use.
・“Orizashi” fabric is made from 100% cotton and has a thick texture, similar to that of traditional kendogi (kendo jackets). For bogu, two types of fabric are commonly used: the textured “Orizashi” and the smooth “Kon-tan” fabric, which resembles hakama material.
・Each kendo equipment manufacturer has its own design philosophy and sizing standards. As a result, even with the same size designation, there may be slight variations in features such as the MEN padding thickness, DO shape, or KOTE length.
