●About the TARE (Waist Protector):
The core padding of the Kendo tare uses a new material: shape-memory “Ultra Felt.” This helps maintain an ideal posture when worn, offering both form and function. The cross-stitching technique increases the overall durability, enhances shock absorption, and maintains flexibility.
The abdomen band (which protects the stomach and waist) is 8mm cross-stitched for ease of tightening and excellent fit. To prevent wear from contact with the Do (chest protector), an additional straight-stitched Orizashi layer is applied. The ends are further reinforced and decorated for durability and appearance.
The O-DARE (front 3 flaps) and KO-DARE (rear 2 flaps) are stitched diagonally with 6mm cross-stitching by machine, balancing mobility and aesthetics. The upper portion of the flaps features elegant five-row embroidery and curved “cloud pattern” embellishments — a luxurious detail rarely seen at this price point.
●Takeshima’s Recommendation:
The “KOKORO CROSS” is a modern machine-stitched Kendo bogu featuring a cross-grid stitching technique. It’s ideal as a special set for tournaments or for withstanding rigorous training.
Cross-stitching (also known as “juji-zashi” or grid stitching) involves sewing both vertically and horizontally, compared to standard straight vertical stitching. This cross pattern disperses the impact force more effectively.
Requiring twice the effort of regular stitching, “KOKORO CROSS” delivers a texture and firmness similar to hand-stitched gear—not too stiff and not too soft. Over time, it adapts to the user’s body, enhancing both comfort and mobility with continued use.
●Maintenance
・After use, reshape the TARE and air-dry it in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
・Indigo-dyed fabrics may fade or become discolored if left under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. A short exposure (1–2 hours) is generally acceptable, but please avoid extended drying over multiple days.
Dry the TARE in a natural shape when possible, or store it in your bogu bag.
・The TARE straps are prone to wrinkling. After use, try to smooth out any wrinkles before storing.
・Over time, sweat may seep to the surface of the MEN or KOTE, leaving white salt marks. In such cases, gently mist or apply moisture using a damp cloth, then let it dry naturally.
・Avoid rubbing the indigo-dyed fabric forcefully with a wet cloth, as this can cause discoloration and degrade the appearance of the bogu. Handle gently.
●Notes
・The “indigo-dyed orizashi fabric” used in this bogu is dyed overseas. While overseas-dyed fabrics have a beautiful indigo tone, they may differ in richness and depth of color compared to high-end, domestically dyed Japanese fabrics.
・Indigo-dyed fabrics may initially transfer color to the skin or clothing. This will lessen over time with continued use.
・“Orizashi” fabric is made from 100% cotton and has a thick texture, similar to that of traditional kendogi (kendo jackets). For bogu, two types of fabric are commonly used: the textured “Orizashi” and the smooth “Kon-tan” fabric, which resembles hakama material.
・Each kendo equipment manufacturer has its own design philosophy and sizing standards. As a result, even with the same size designation, there may be slight variations in features such as the MEN padding thickness, DO shape, or KOTE length.
