KOKORO Kendo Bogu Set Specifications
● MEN (Helmet):
・Equipped with high-vision mengane (face grill) to improve peripheral vision without compromising safety standards. Slightly wider spacing in the grill allows better visibility of your opponent’s full movement.
・Top padding uses 8mm cross-stitching, forming square grids to enhance shock absorption. The men-dare (flaps under the ears) are stitched at 6mm with diagonal cross-stitching to reduce interference when lifting the shinai.
・The ago (throat protector) and edge reinforcements are made of durable synthetic leather, offering easy care and water resistance compared to traditional deerskin.
・The inner lining uses tricot fabric, known for its soft feel, stretchability, shape retention, and excellent breathability.

● KOTE (Gloves):
・The right kote-tube (forearm area) is slightly thicker for added protection, recognizing its frequent contact during strikes.
・6mm cross-stitched padding provides texture that disperses impact effectively.
・Palm area is made of synthetic leather, which offers a secure grip on the shinai.
・The kote-gashira (fist area) is covered with orizashi fabric and features double hand-stitch decoration, with a balance between protection and flexibility.

● DO (Chest Protector):
・Features a basic black finish with a reinforced resin do-dai (main body). This 50-slat-style resin back mimics the shape of traditional bamboo-style do for better thickness and durability.
・The do-mune (chest piece) is decorated with a hand-crafted “S-shaped cloud” (kumo) design, with a rare X-pattern stitch inside, giving it a unique, elegant look.
・While resin is the modern standard, this do presents a solid, refined presence, suitable for intermediate-level practitioners.

● TARE (Waist Protector):
・The haraobi (waist band) uses 8mm cross-stitching for a secure and comfortable fit. Reinforced orizashi fabric is added to reduce damage from contact with the do.
・The odare (front flaps) and kodare (rear flaps) are stitched with 6mm diagonal cross-stitching, offering flexibility and a sharp visual appeal.
・Features five-row decorative stitching with a stylish cloud-shaped embroidery below, adding both function and aesthetic refinement.

◎Takeshima’s Recommendation
・KOKORO “Cross Stitch” is part of a new generation of machine-stitched bogu.
・This grid-style (koushi-zashi) stitch—also known as cross or lattice stitching—adds horizontal reinforcement on top of vertical stitches to enhance shock dispersion during impact.
・The added effort in this stitching method gives this bogu a feel close to handmade gear, balancing firmness and flexibility. As it breaks in over time, the fit and mobility will improve, making it an ideal set for competitive matches and hard training.
・We highly recommend this set for intermediate to advanced kendo practitioners seeking high performance and durability with a premium look and feel.

●Maintenance Tips
・Dry Properly:
After use, shape the Men and Kote, then air-dry them in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and material degradation.
・Avoid Folding Men Flaps:
Let the Men-dare (ear flaps) hang naturally or store them properly to maintain their shape.
・Maintain Kote Shape:
Smooth out the wrinkles in the Tenouchi and reshape the Kote to maintain its original form.
・Wipe Sweat and Oils:
Clean the inner Men padding, especially around the chin area, where sweat accumulates.
If salt or sweat residue appears white on the surface, gently mist with water or wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid rubbing too hard, especially on indigo-dyed areas, as it can cause discoloration.
・Soften the Kote Head:
Over time, sweat can harden the glove. Before use, gently knead the Kote to restore softness for a better fit.

●Notes
・Each Kendo equipment brand manufactures its products based on its own unique design philosophy and standards. As a result, even if the size specifications are the same, there may be slight differences in details such as the thickness of the men-shin (helmet padding), the shape of the do (chest protector), or the length of the kote (gloves).
・The Orizashi fabric used in this set is dyed overseas. While it offers a beautiful shade of indigo, please note that there may be subtle differences in tone and texture compared to high-end Japanese-made fabrics.
・Indigo-dyed fabrics may initially transfer color to the skin or clothing. This will gradually fade with continued use.
・The outer fabric is made from 100% cotton and is similar to the thick material used for kendogi (Kendo uniforms). Two main fabric types are commonly used in Kendo armor:
Orizashi: A woven-textured cotton fabric.
Kon-tan: A smoother, tighter-woven fabric, typically used for hakama.
・Due to differences in devices and viewing environments, the color and texture of the product may appear slightly different from the actual item. Thank you for your understanding.
