●Product Description
The DOTETSU shinai is one of Takeshima Budo-gu’s signature match-use shinais.
It is a slim, practical-style shinai designed specifically for competition.
The body of the shinai (around the label area above the handle leather) is crafted with a firm, well-defined curve and gradually tapers toward the tip.
The left-hand grip (bamboo only) measures approximately 26 mm, offering a standard thickness.
With its carefully balanced design, the center of gravity is closer to the grip, making the tip feel lighter when held.
This shinai is highly recommended for players who want to launch frequent attacks and respond quickly during matches.
●About Shinai Styles
Standard Shinai type:A well-balanced, versatile shape commonly used by practitioners of all levels – from beginners to advanced players.
Dobari Shinai type:Features a slightly wider section near the handle, shifting the balance closer to the hands. This makes the shinai feel lighter at the tip, allowing for quicker handling and faster combinations. (Often referred to as “practical” or “competition style.”)
Koto Shinai type:Inspired by the shape of a Japanese katana. Designed for advanced practitioners seeking powerful, precise strikes.
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
