●Product Description
The KEIJI Dobari-type Octagonal Grip Shinai is a dobari-style shinai.
Dobari-type shinais have the balance point closer to the grip, making them easy to maneuver and swing.
They are widely used by many kendo players not only for regular practice but also for competitions.
The main feature of the KEIJI Dobari-type Octagonal Grip Shinai is its thicker, octagonal-shaped grip, which gives a distinctive feeling when held.
The overall silhouette of the shinai is also crafted to be slightly thicker than standard models.
It comes with an “SSP” seal, which certifies that it meets the standards set by the All Japan Kendo Federation and can be used in official matches.
The name “KEIJI” evokes the image of a powerful Japanese Sengoku-era warrior.
●Product Description
The ITTETSU is a long-selling, popular Dobari-type shinai.
It features a tapered design toward the tip, making it easy to swing and allowing for quick, sharp strikes.
The grip (left-hand, bamboo only) is approximately 25 mm on the size 39, making it a slightly thinner option.
Crafted from durable Keichiku bamboo, this shinai combines a slim, straight profile with thick bamboo pieces, giving it the crisp, sharp feeling unique to fine, slender shinais.
Recommended for players seeking smooth handling, sharp strikes, and a refined competition-ready feel.
●Reference: Typical Shinai Size & Weight

Size 39: 120 cm – Men: approx. 510 g | Women: approx. 440 g

●About Shinai Styles
Standard Shinai type:A well-balanced, versatile shape commonly used by practitioners of all levels – from beginners to advanced players.
Dobari Shinai type:Features a slightly wider section near the handle, shifting the balance closer to the hands. This makes the shinai feel lighter at the tip, allowing for quicker handling and faster combinations. (Often referred to as “practical” or “competition style.”)
Koto Shinai type:Inspired by the shape of a Japanese katana. Designed for advanced practitioners seeking powerful, precise strikes.
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
