KUNIMITSU is a Kotō-style shinai designed with a short grip.
The handle is 1–2 cm shorter than a standard 39 size, shifting the balance closer to the hands and making the shinai easier to maneuver—ideal for those who prefer a shorter tsuka.
Kotō-style shinais are favored by experienced practitioners and high-ranking kendoka, and are commonly used for keiko, tournaments, and grading exams.
KUNIMITSU is available in 39 Men size only, with a standard grip thickness of 26 mm (left-hand grip, bamboo only).
This shinai is certified with the SSP seal, meeting the requirements of the All Japan Kendo Federation.

・Standard Shinai
Neutral balance. The most common type, suitable for all levels.
・Dobari Shinai
Weight near the handle. Best for quick, fast strikes and competition.
・Koto Shinai
Weight is distributed across the whole shinai, centering toward the middle. Favored by experienced players for powerful, solid impact.

(Weights are approximate and may vary due to natural bamboo. Please note: 38-size women’s approx. 420 g is for high school girls’ division in Japan and cannot be used in general adult women’s competitions.)
●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
