MUGEN Gold is a Kotō-style shinai, featuring a centered balance that allows practitioners to feel the weight of the bamboo and deliver strong, committed strikes. This style is favored by experienced kendoka and high-ranking practitioners, and is commonly used for keiko, tournaments, and promotion exams.
The defining feature of this model is its thick grip, which provides a stronger sense of contact with the shinai. This allows the user to clearly feel the weight and balance, resulting in more powerful strikes.
Additionally, MUGEN Gold is a short-grip type, shortened by approximately 1–2 cm compared to a standard size-39 grip. This shifts the balance slightly toward the hands, making it easier to handle for those who prefer a shorter grip. Highly recommended for kendoka who like thicker, more substantial grips.
Complies with AJKF regulations and comes with the official SSP sticker.
The meaning of MUGEN:
Mu — without, endless, limitless
Gen — illusion, phantom, something without physical substance

●Shinai Styles
・Standard Shinai
Neutral balance. The most common type, suitable for all levels.
・Dobari Shinai
Weight near the handle. Best for quick, fast strikes and competition.
・Koto Shinai
Weight is distributed across the whole shinai, centering toward the middle. Favored by experienced players for powerful, solid impact.

●Reference: Typical Shinai Size & Weight
Size 38: 117 cm – Men: approx. 480 g | Women: approx. 420–440 g
Size 39: 120 cm – Men: approx. 510 g | Women: approx. 440 g
(Weights are approximate and may vary due to natural bamboo. Please note: 38-size women’s approx. 420 g is for high school girls’ division in Japan and cannot be used in general adult women’s competitions.)

●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
