RETSU (Standard Pre-assembled Shinai)
The “RETSU” is a standard, pre-assembled (or completed) shinai designed for a wide range of uses, from daily practice (Keiko) to official matches (Shiai). Since it is already assembled, it is ready for immediate use. Please note that the length of the grip leather (tsukagawa) cannot be adjusted as it is a complete product.
Key Feature: Solid Bio Processing on Keichiku Bamboo
The most significant feature of this shinai is the Solid Bio Processing applied to the Keichiku bamboo material. This special technique involves heating and smoking the bamboo to dramatically enhance its inherent strength and viscosity (flexibility/durability). The processing gives the bamboo a deep, dark brown (cigar brown) surface, resulting in a highly durable shinai with a satisfyingly solid striking feel.
Solid Bio Processed shinai is a highly popular model in Japan, increasingly chosen by kendo practitioners of all ages, from junior kenshi to adults, for both practice and competition.
Furthermore, it is affixed with the “SSP” seal, certifying that it meets the safety regulations of the All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF), ensuring its suitability for official use.

●Care & Maintenance
・Store in a shinai case, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
・We recommend using both a shinai bag and the protective plastic cover provided at purchase.
・A tsuba (guard) and tsuba-dome (rubber stopper) are required for practice (sold separately).
・Check your shinai frequently during practice for splinters or cracks. Replace immediately if damage is found.
・Long-term storage may cause bamboo to dry, discolor, or become brittle. Avoid using an aged shinai.
・Over time, bamboo may dry out and slightly lose weight.
・The nakayui (leather tie) and tsuru (string) may loosen with use. Regular maintenance is recommended.
