Kokoro Do S-Shaped Cloud Design Cross-Stitch Kurozan Leather 50Piece Reinforced Resin with Strings

●About the DO
・A Chest Protector with Personality
・The DO-Dai (main body) is made from reinforced resin in a “50-slat style”. This resin body offers excellent impact resistance. The interior surface of this 50-slat Do-Dai is uneven, resembling traditional bamboo DOs, and is slightly thicker than standard resin types, helping to absorb and reduce shock.
・The DO-Mune (chest piece) is crafted from genuine cowhide leather and features a hand-braided cloud design (kumo-kazari). This particular DO includes an S-shaped cloud pattern (S-ji kazari), and the interior of the cloud is detailed with cross-stitching, which is a rare and unique design feature that gives the DO a distinctive character.
・Considering the structure of the 50-slat body and the originality of the chest piece design, this DO falls into the intermediate class. Its simple yet eye-catching presence is sure to stand out in both regular practice and at tournaments.

●What is Genuine Kurozan Cowhide Leather?
The Premium Genuine Kurozan Cowhide Leather used for the chest portion is created by dyeing natural cowhide black and applying lacquer over the surface.
Each piece is then carefully hand-massaged, resulting in its signature uneven texture. This technique brings out the leather’s unique character and the lacquer’s deep luster, giving the DO its premium appearance.
Today, only a handful of artisans in Japan possess the skills to produce this hand-massaged premium Kurozan leather, making it an extremely rare and valuable material.
On the other hand, the more common types of Kurozan leather are made by machine embossing a textured pattern and applying a gloss coating over it. Even when the production method is similar, the grade of leather (standard, superior, premium) significantly affects the final quality.

●Maintenance
・After use, air-dry the Do in a well-ventilated, shaded area. The mune absorbs sweat and should be properly dried.
・As it is made of cowhide, the mune will naturally age and deteriorate over time. Even if unused, improper storage can cause the leather to dry and degrade.
・There are six chichikawa (leather loops) on the sides and top of the DO.
・The resin Do-Dai(main body) has a glossy finish, but repeated strikes will result in surface scratches and loss of shine over time.

●Notes
・Each Kendo equipment brand manufactures its products based on its own unique design philosophy and standards. As a result, even if the size specifications are the same, there may be slight differences in details such as the thickness of the men-shin (helmet padding), the shape of the do (chest protector), or the length of the kote (gloves).
